Here you get to explore the iconic Golden Circle and relax in between stops at Fontana Spa. At our first stop we retrace the footsteps of the ancient Vikings by visiting Þingvellir National Park. Þingvellir is where the early settlers established their national assembly and took the first step to defining a nation. Þingvellir is an extremely dramatic and beautiful location. It´s also where the American and Eurasian continental plates are literally pulling apart at an annual rate of 2 cm. The park also has within it Iceland’s biggest lake, Þingvallavatn.
The next stop is Laugavatn. It´s a town, a lake, and the home of Fontana Geothermal Spa. Whatever the weather you can be sure that Fontana is the perfect spot for relaxing in between sightseeing and enjoying the fresh Icelandic air.
The view of the lake is spectacular – and if you´re daring enough you can even take a dip in the lake´s cool waters, in between enjoying the natural saunas and bathing in the soothing warm pools of varying temperatures. In the saunas, hearing the boiling water bubble and gurgle below the floors is surreal – you can literally feel the geothermal power underneath the earth.
Next it´s on to see the world famous Geysir – where the ground trembles and steaming hot water spouts spectacularly skywards from the famous Strokkur Geyser every few minutes.
Our last stop is the dramatic Gullfoss Waterfall, which is a breathtaking sight to behold. Here a powerful glacial river cascades down 32 meters on two levels and into a narrow canyon with a thunderous roar.
All in all – it’s the perfect combination of activities. Amazing must-do sightseeing, and a relaxing bathe in a geothermal spa set in a gorgeous location!
