The Golden Circle is perhaps the most popular tourist route in Iceland. In Iceland we call it Gullni hringurinn, and the main attractions on this 300 kilometers route are Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall and geyser Geysir, which lies on the geothermal area in Haukadalur.
Geysir is so famous that the English word geyser actually stems from this natural phenomenon. Geysir has been mostly dormant for many years, but it was known to hurl boiling water up to 70 meters in the air. Today, Geysir’s younger brother, Strokkur, does all the hurling, entertaining tourists and locals alike with a powerful display of raw natural power.
Other popular attractions on the Golden Circle route are Kerið volcanic crater, Skálholt cathedral, Friðheimar tomato farm, Secret Lagoon geothermal spa, Sólheimar Eco-Village and Fontana geothermal baths.
And even though thousands of tourists do the Golden Circle every month, it never gets old. It’s just so amazing. Join us on this beautiful trail in southern Iceland.
